The film "Dear John" is a great example of how love can survive different disasters and changes, yet still last over the years. It also shows how love can leave us in dilemmas where sooner or later we have to hurt our loved ones.

One of the main characters, Savannah, feels that she has to support her friend Tim, who is suffering from cancer, by marrying him. She breaks up with her boyfriend John, who is in the army. Her behaviour is justified, because John has left her all alone without talking it over with Savannah and Tim is in dire need for someone to take care of him and his autistic son Alan. That way it would be easier for Savannah to adopt Alan, after Tim has passed away.

Although Savannah and John still love each other after Tim's death, they do not reunite. Savannah wants to remain friends, but John finds that it would be better never to meet again. At the end of the movie, though, they accidentally bump into each other and possibly get together again.

I really like this movie, because it shows relationships in different aspects - the joys and troubles, the happy and sad times. I think the actress Amanda Seyfried did a very good job in this role, she played out all the emotions and feelings naturally. This film would be suitable for people who like emotional stories about love.
