As a part of this project, we watched the film 'Dear John' in our English class. It is a 2010 romantic war film starring Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum. It is an adaption of Nicholas Sparks' novel of the same name.
The film is about John Tyree and Savannah Curtis, who fall in love. Unfortunately, they only have 2 weeks to spend together, because John is a Sergeant in the Army Special Forces and Savannah has to go back to college. They begin a long-distance relationship through letters, which lasts for 2 years before Savannah sends John a letter telling him she has become engaged to someone else. They remain friends, but never actually get back together.
I have mixed feelings about this film. It starts out really sweet and cute like all romantic films do, but in the end it gets a little confusing and even boring. All they do is write letters to each other during half of the film and then out of nowhere Savannah gets engaged to someone else. That doesn't make sense at all. I would've preferred it ifthey stayed together until the end of the film. Of course, with their ups and downs, but still together. It's not really a romantic film if they are apart most of the time. There are definitely some better romantic films out there to watch.
This is only my opinion and many people would probably think otherwise, so I would recommend this film to anyone looking for a romantic film to watch and from there on, you can form your own opinion of it.
