During our last week's English lessons we watched "Dear John". It is a movie about love.
The main characters John and Savannah meet during their spring break. They fall in love almost immediately. After being together for two weeks, John has to go back to the army and Savannah back to school. They begin a long-distance relationship through letters. Even though John has planned on leaving the army, the September 11 attacks conflict him, and soon he decides to re-enlist. Over the next two years, John and Savannah correspond through letters. Ultimately, Savannah sends John a letter informing him that she has become engaged to someone else. Soon John is shot by the enemy. After some time he is informed that his father has had a stroke. He returns home. He writes a letter to his father and afterwards reads it to him in hospital, in order to let him know how very thankful he is. He finds out that Savannah is married to Tim and that Tim has cancer. He helps Tim by donating him money for his therapy. At the end John and Savannah still love each other, but they are not yet together. Fortunately, the ending gives us reason to think that they soon will be.
I think that this movie is really good, it's not a typical love story and I like it. The general idea is interesting and because it's different, you don't know for sure what will happen at the end. It's abstemiously sad, but there are also good things in the film. The music is really good, exactly on topic and suits the film perfectly. I like John's character - he's sensitive, but not too much. He knows what to say and how to be. He's not perfect like the characters in these movies usually are. The movie is really enthralling and it's always nice to watch true love.
I would recommend it to people who like to watch movies that actually have something to say but not something too serious. Basically, I think it suits best for youngsters at our age and also for lovers who always like to watch movies about true love.
