The film was released on 5 february 2010 by Lasse Hallström, who is the director of the film. It is an American drama-war film starring Channing Tatum (John Tyree), Amanda Seyfried (Savannah Curtis) and Richard Jenkins (Mr. Tyree).The filming took place in the United States and the story was written by Nicholas Sparks.

Dear John tells a story of an American soldier, who falls in love with a student he meets by accident. They don't have much time to be together but that is enough to fall in love with each other. John re-signs due to the 9/11 attack and he is away from his beloved woman for a year. They write each other letters which keep them still together until John goes away for another year and Savannah's love for him starts to fade. Meanwhile, Savannah goes to school and sometimes visits John's dad, who, according to Savannah, is suffering from mild autism. And John is serving in the army, where he gets shot with three bullets in his body. Savannah gets tired of waiting, and she starts to live her life without John. By the time John gets back, she is already engaged to Tim. John re-signs again because he no longer thinks that their relationship will ever work. They stay apart for years and eventually they meet again after living their own lives for a long time. And the real ending of the film is in your imagination because film ends when they meet again in a cafe.

I usually don't bother watching romantic drama films because I'm more into comedy or action films but Dear John is my favourite romantic film next to Pearl Harbour. This film really encouraged me to watch more drama films.

The most I like about this film is the actors. I wouldn't imagine any other actors to star in this movie. For example, Jim Carrey or Steve Carrel would have made this film a comedy one. John and Savannah together give this romantic feeling that you really need to watch a romantic drama film. Also, that little Blonde kid who has autism plays his character just perfectly. I'm not good at judging dramas because I don't watch them much but for me it is a new and good experience and the actors won my heart in this film.

I also like the story of the film. It is rather educating and eye-opening for me. I learned a few things from this film. For example, people can stay together even after a year apart from each other when love is strong. I also learned that after watching a romantic drama film, I get the feeling that life isn't so sad at all, but at the same time I get this thoughtful feeling, which makes me think a lot about the problems they have in this movie. I also like that John is a soldier in this movie because it makes his character a bit silent and also thoughtful, which suits a strong soldier very well.

The best scene in this movie for me, is the place where John gets into a fight with some of Savannah's firiends and where he shows his skills that he has learned in the army. As I said I really like action films too, that's why it was the most interesting scene for me to watch.

I would recommend this film most probably to people like me, who are strangers to romantic films and who would like to get a new and great experience in this type of film genre.
